Kurma Gayatri Mantra to Worship Kurma Avatar of Lord Vishnu

The Sacred Kurma Gayatri Mantra is a dedicated mantra to worship Lord Vishnu in his tortoise incarnation, the avatar known for its strength and stability.

During the Samudra Manthana, Lord Vishnu took the form of Kurma, a giant tortoise, and used his back as a stable base to support Mount Mandara, which began sinking during the churning of the Ocean of Milk to extract ambrosia.

For those feeling overwhelmed by challenging situations in their life or burdened by responsibilities, this mantra offers a great refuge. It helps invoke the power of Kurma rupa, who presides over stability and strength.

Reciting the Kurma Gayatri Mantra along with Kurma Mantras and Slokas helps enhance inner strength when facing challenging situations and sufferings.

These chants provide protection by removing negative influences and clearing obstacles on the path to success. Additionally, devotees who meditate on the mantra and the Kurma form experience improved mental clarity, courage, and greater steadiness and resilience.

Kurma Gayatri Mantra

Meaning: The Lord who has taken the Kacchapa form (tortoise), we meditate on you. O, the one with immense strength, we contemplate. May that Lord Kurma (tortoise incarnation of Vishnu) illuminate our intellect.

Meaning: To the one who presides over all the worlds, we meditate upon you, we contemplate on the one who governs the stability or sustenance of the universe. May that Lord Kurma (tortoise incarnation of Vishnu) illuminate our intellect.

Note: Some practitioners also use the word Kharadhyakshaya instead of Dharadhyakshaya. Both terms comply with the rules of the Gayatri mantra. However, Dharadhyakshaya appears to be more fitting in terms of meaning and is also referred to in certain texts, or you may also decide which to use according to your Guru’s recommendation.
